We Should All be Critical Teacher-Researchers. Are We Really?
Critique and critical has become a common word in education. We talk about critical theory, critical pedagogy, critical methodologies, critical thinking, critical literacies, and many other combinations with the word critical; also, when students engage in research at any educational level, they state they want their project to be critical. Nonetheless, we do not always have a clear understanding of what the word entails. The purpose of this talk is to share a personal perspective of what critical means and the implications it has for language pedagogy and for research based on the historical origins of critical theory, the developments of critical pedagogy, and the kinds of critical research that could be undertaken. Some examples will be provided for the audience to understand what critical could mean.
